Next Generation of Triathletes Compete

Yas Bay waterfront was the stunning setting as children from across Abu Dhabi and the UAE took to the track on Friday afternoon to compete in the Open Race Kids Triathlon (9-11 years) and the Open Race Junior Super Sprint (12-15 years) during the World Triathlon Championship Finals.

Showcasing the UAE’s next generation of triathlon superstars, children were able to follow in the footsteps of the world’s best triathletes at they raced on the famous course on a glorious day in the capital.

Sisters, Miruna and Sabina Teasca from Romania, aged 11 and 9 said: “The cycling was the best because you can go faster, and it doesn’t tire you out as much. We also loved the swimming because the water felt nice, and we also had the most energy during this part because it was the start of the race. It was really fun, and we’re so pleased we took part!’’

14-year-old Klara Holtzhausen from South Africa said: “The race was amazing. I loved the swimming challenge and having the crowds cheer you on from the start is really cool. I think more children should give triathlon a go. It’s a great sport as you get to race in difference disciplines, so it challenges you further. I had a lot of fun today which is the main thing.’’

The kids’ community races are a number of events associated with the 2022 World Triathlon Championship Finals, including community, age group, and para categories along with the elite and elite U23, making this one of the most inclusive sporting occasions in the calendar.
